Chief Executive, Health & Safety Executive for Northern Ireland

Robert joined the NICS in 1988 and completed both his degree and postgraduate diploma while working. He has held a variety of roles in both the administrative grades as well as a time as a statistician for NISRA.

In late 2011 he moved to Department of Justice as the Head of Firearms & Explosives Branch. This was a regulatory role involving legislation, inspection and licensing for commercial explosives and pyrotechnics. His branch also dealt with firearms appeals. Much of his work there was underpinned by Health & Safety legislation. He has also worked closely with law enforcement and industry during this period. He moved to his current role in January 2019.

Robert is married to Catherine (also a civil servant), they have one son who is 19 and studying personalised medicine at UU. Robert’s interests include travel, photography and everything related to cars and motorsport. He is also a self-confessed technology geek.
