Background
With almost 1,500 employees based in NI, Caterpillar NI provides design, testing, manufacturing, and sales functions from locations in Larne, Monkstown, and the Springvale Industrial Park in Belfast. In addition to major manufacturing operations, Caterpillar NI is also home to a number of other regional business functions such as Sales, Marketing, Logistics, Finance, Legal, and Shared Services.

What Caterpillar NI did
Corporate Social Responsibility is central to everything at Caterpillar NI and all employees are encouraged to participate in activities that strengthen the communities in which they operate. Caterpillar believes its success should contribute to the quality of life, prosperity, and sustainability of the communities where it works, lives, and serves.

Education-focussed initiatives naturally form a large part of Caterpillar’s community engagement strategy and a clear strategic link for the manufacturing business is through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) agenda. Caterpillar actively engages in events to promote awareness of careers within STEM, and works in partnership with universities and local charities to ensure this agenda is at the forefront in terms of careers aspirations. The company also engages in a range of activities to promote STEM from primary school right through to graduate level.

Caterpillar NI also partnered with the Arkwright Scholarships Trust, a charity that administers the most prestigious scholarship scheme of its type in the UK. The goal of these scholarships is to identify, inspire, and nurture future leaders in Engineering and Technical Design by supporting students as they transition through their A-Levels.
