AES UK & Ireland has been awarded Platinum Level in the Business & Biodiversity Charter by Business in the Community, in partnership with Ulster Wildlife, for its outstanding commitment to protecting and enhancing biodiversity at the company’s sites in Northern Ireland.
Launched in 2016, the Business and Biodiversity Charter initiative aims to inspire and encourage businesses throughout Northern Ireland to protect and enhance biodiversity.
Ian Nuttall, Head of Environment at Business in the Community Northern Ireland explains: “AES UK & Ireland is exemplary in its approach to biodiversity and it’s wonderful to be able to formally recognise its efforts in this way. The organisation has made a solid commitment to protecting and enhancing biodiversity at its sites in Northern Ireland, and has invested in a number of innovative initiatives to improve biodiversity and inspire their workforce to protect the natural environment.”
Lucy Marsden, Health, Safety, Security and Environment Advisor for AES commented: “We are delighted to achieve Platinum Level in the Business & Biodiversity Charter. We are committed to developing a world-class corporate biodiversity programme, and this accolade is testament to the hard work of all the team in Northern Ireland.
“As part of our commitment to the natural environment, we employ a dedicated Biodiversity Graduate Officer who, with the support of Ulster Wildlife, has helped us to further develop our strategic approach to biodiversity. We have created bespoke biodiversity gardens, produced a Wildlife Identification Guide for employees, and run a Wildlife Monitoring Scheme across all our sites.”
Jennifer Fulton, Chief Executive of Ulster Wildlife adds: “We are thrilled that AES UK & Ireland has achieved this recognition. We’ve worked closely with the company over the past 12 years, and we are very proud to have been able to support them on their ‘biodiversity journey’. We hope that their efforts inspire other like-minded organisations to do more to protect and enhance biodiversity where they live and work.”
