BITCNI Environmental Policy 2016
24 August 2016
Business in the Community stands for responsible business. Set up in Northern Ireland in 1989, we now have over 260 members and are the largest business-led coalition dedicated to corporate responsibility.
We are part of a UK-wide organisation with over 850 members and the unique ability to convene senior business leaders to tackle key social issues and use their skills and resources as a force for good. We also have a sister organisation in Dublin, enabling us to engage effectively with businesses that have an all-Ireland perspective.
The global accessibility of information and the instant reach of social networks make business transparency and corporate responsibility more important than ever. Today’s consumers are increasingly interested in business and they want to know how companies make their money and how they affect society and the environment.
Our membership continues to grow as more companies realise that just saying they are committed to being socially responsible is not enough. They now also understand that membership of Business in the Community is the most effective way of turning that commitment into action.
Our role has evolved over the years in line with changes in society and the issues facing our members, but one thing that has remained constant is our belief that business can be a powerful force for good. We have always encouraged companies to engage individually to address their own business priorities in a responsible way, while at the same time using their skills and resources to benefit society and the environment by working together through collective business action.
….is to challenge and support business to be a force for good.
