Translink keep ahead of the pace in workplace wellbeing

Translink employees have raised over £20,000 for their charity partner, Cancer Focus NI through a range of fundraising activities.

One of Translink’s most successful fundraising activities was led by its team in Magherfelt, who raised £1,521. The team, led by Translink Go Healthy Champion, Ulsterbus Driver: Chris Jones, decided to take on a wellbeing challenge that was connected with work. They ran 72.4 miles, the total distance of one of the most popular express routes, the 212, from Foyle Street bus station in Derry/Londonderry to Europa bus station in Belfast. This distance was completed on treadmills, in Meadlowlane Shopping Centre, Magherafelt.

The team ran the full distance, a feat that would impress any seasoned runner. The team recognise the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity, working together and giving to others. This challenge worked in line with Translink’s Go Healthy Strategy, supporting employees at work through assistance with improving their own health and wellbeing.

Here’s what employees had to say:

“We supported and cheered each other on, through the gruelling heat inside Meadowlane shopping centre. An outstanding amount was raised and it was such a worthwhile event to have been part of.”

Trevor McCombe driver

“Run the 212 was a fantastic event. A tough challenge, but an amazing team effort. We are delighted with the amount we raised for such a worthy cause.”

Beryl Greaves clerk

“We all enjoyed it even though it was hard and we look forward to doing our next event in 2019.”
