Lidl is a great place to work

As a retail business, Lidl realises that dedicated staff are its greatest asset. With this in mind, Lidl has made significant investments in initiatives to support staff to ensure Lidl is a great place to work.

Charity and Staff Engagement

The retail environment can be quite hectic throughout the year and even more so during the Christmas period. In recognition of the stress that staff on the shop floor undergo, Lidl has a Feet on the Ground initiative where more than 450 office staff from across Ireland join the teams in store to offer additional support during this busy time. This benefits both in-store staff and customers, ensuring stock is up to date and customer service is maintained. The office staff also get a unique insight into what in-store trading is really like.

As a way of spreading some Christmas cheer among staff in the very busy warehouse, Lidl introduced the Advent Calendar Reward Scheme. Each day, a team member is selected and a prize revealed. Prizes included the choice of any shift pattern for an individual, or sausage/bacon and egg baps for the whole team.

Another key area of staff engagement for Lidl is fundraising for its charity partner NSPCC, with activities including:

  • The Great Lidl Bake off – this was held at the Regional Distribution Centre at Nutts Corner and all of the home-baked goodies went down a treat. The healthy competition that ensued saw staff raise £144.50 for the NSPCC
  • The Annual Lidl Trolley Dash – staff in-store sold tickets for this competition and one lucky shopper in each store had the opportunity to take part in Lidl’s very own Super Market Sweep. In Northern Ireland, staff raised a whopping £77,560 for the NSPCC, and the lucky trolley dasher walked away with trolley full of groceries after the two minute sprint.

Staff at Lidl are very generous with their time and donations, and all community initiatives are fully supported by the corporate team.
