Its people help form its CR strategy – they are involved in forming it and rolling it out. Staff choose the charity partnership, organise all fundraising activities, and formulate the health and wellbeing emphasis within the organisation. This married with the business priorities lends itself to business commitment to offer employment options to those furthest removed from the workforce through buy social, apprenticeships, placements and mentoring. Turkington’s realise that staff retention is of great importance to the business and as such resources are made available to ensure opportunities for training development and career progression.

Impacts and Outcomes

  • Four long-term unemployed people supported back into the workplace.
  • Six apprentices supported through subcontractors
  • Gifted a local community group the use of company land to start up the flagship project Upperlands Community Hydro-Electric. The scheme now supplies environmentally friendly power to run the commercial units at the Linenhall Centre and the excess is sold to NIE by the community group.
  • Community engagement helped secure the Orthopaedic Theatre project
  • Received ‘Performance Above Compliance’ certificates on 95% of its projects in 2017
  • Raised £3,000 for 2017 Charity of the Year – AWARE
  • Already raised £14,000 for 2018 Charity of the Year – REACH – due to a Motor Festival held in February
