Paul Oakes

Manager, Equality Commission for Northern Ireland

Paul has worked for the Equality Commission for 24 years, principally as Manager of the Advisory Support team. This team is responsible for the delivery of their employer enquiry line, all employer training and strategic work with employers. In the past he also had responsibility for developing the Commission’s employment guidance materials.

Prior to this Paul worked for five years with an organisation called Counteract which was an anti-intimidation training unit established by the trade union movement. He worked with employers and unions in relation to workplace disputes on flags and emblems.
Paul has also worked in a voluntary capacity with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. In this role he developed guidance and training projects for officials on subjects including Section 75, the DDA and how social and public policy is made in Northern Ireland.
