Managing Director, Caterpillar Northern Ireland
Mark McClure took up the position of Managing Director for Caterpillar Northern Ireland in September 2017. The primary focus of his role is the company’s large electric power operations located in Larne.
Mark leads a highly-skilled team focused on the production of diesel and gas-powered electrical generators ranging in size from less than 10kW up to levels of over 3MW. This includes the production of generating sets for prime and standby power as well as rental applications.
Mark graduated from the University of Ulster, with a BEng Hons degree in engineering and started his working career with FG Wilson (Engineering) Ltd as a graduate mechanical engineer.
He then progressed into a leadership role within the company’s engineering division, where he worked on new product design and engineering support.
In 2003, Mark achieved Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and in 2008 he moved into a role in operations, where he led a large team focused on the fabrication, assembly and testing of custom-designed generator units for specific customer needs.
From 2011 to 2017 Mark worked for Caterpillar in Brazil, followed by two years in China. Both roles involved the management of Caterpillar operational facilities.
In 2014, Mark and his team achieved the Caterpillar Chairman’s award for operational excellence. In 2017, Mark was recognised by the Tianjin administration of Foreign Expats Affairs with a nomination for the Haihe Friendship Award, which celebrates individuals who had made a significant contribution to both business and local community.
During his term in Brazil and China, Mark was on the Board of Directors for local international schools and a member of the European Chamber in Tianjin. Upon returning to the UK, he has continued to focus his efforts on supporting the local community. He currently acts as Chair of the Caterpillar Board of Directors for Northern Ireland and represents the company as a member of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce as well as Business in the Community.
