Group Environment & Quality Manager, Henry Group Limited
Charlene brings a wealth of knowledge with ten years’ experience in the field of Quality Assurance and Environmental Management. She is the Group Quality & Environmental Manager for Henry Group Limited which comprises of a number of manufacturing & construction sector companies, ranging from civils and construction to interior fit-out with a turnover in excess of 80 million across their operations in Northern Ireland, East Midlands and Scotland.
Coming predominantly from a construction and engineering background having completed a BSc in Surveying and an MSc in Construction & Project Management at Queens University, Charlene began her career in surveying, diversifying into Quality Assurance in 2009. She has since been employed in Quality and Environmental Management working with Main Contractors gaining experience in Commercial, Education, Health, Industrial, Renewable, Defence and Custodial sector Projects.
A Certified Lead Auditor conducting internal and third party supplier audits throughout Europe, Charlene can draw on a range of expertise in the field of construction and manufacturing. She is an advocate to ‘improving together’ and sharing best practice, and therefore established a Sustainability Professionals Forum to draw on best practice examples in the industry to encourage ‘best practice sharing and collaboration’ among local businesses.
An advocate of ‘Educating the next generation of Environmentalists’ she established a schools education programme in conjunction with Ulster Wildlife using the Henry Group Nature Park to educate schoolchildren on Biodiversity in line with Henry Groups CSR Agenda. She has established a mentoring Programme with Queens University Belfast to employ BSc and MSc students to conduct research into sustainability in construction which is currently in its fourth year. Four research projects have been completed to date with the most recent project focusing on Plastics in the Construction process and supply chain.
Charlene received the ‘Leadership in Sustainable Development award’ at the Sustainable Ireland Awards and led a team to win the highly coveted “Most Considerate Site in the UK Award”. She has been working with the Henry Group for over four years and in this time spearheaded the Sustainable Business Strategy leading the business to many successes in the field of Sustainability including being awarded prestigious Green Apple Awards which were presented at the House of Commons for successes in the environmental field, Platinum award at the BITC Environmental Benchmarking Survey and various awards for carbon reduction and biodiversity.
