Managing Director, SONI and Chair, Environment Leadership Team, Business in the Community
Jo is Managing Director of SONI, the Electricity System Operator for Northern Ireland. She also sits on the SONI Board of Directors.
Jo joined SONI in 2019, coming from the Utility Regulator for Northern Ireland, where she served as Director of Wholesale Energy Regulation. In this role, she was responsible for the regulation of the all-island wholesale electricity market (SEM), in partnership with the electricity regulator in the Republic of Ireland. During this time Jo led a fundamental redesign of the market, involving the introduction of new arrangements to increase competition and improve downward pressure on prices.
Jo is a graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, and a chartered civil engineer. Jo is Chair of Business in the Community Northern Ireland’s Environmental Leadership Team, board member of the Confederation of British Industry, Northern Ireland (CBI) and member of the Institute of Directors.
