Director, Centre for Advanced Sustainable Energy

Sam was appointed as Manager of CASE in November 2012, becoming Director in May 2013, following a 17 year career in consultancy. In her previous post as Regional Director with WYG, she was Project Director and Northern Ireland Country Manager for the ERDF/Invest NI funded Envirowise Programme for a decade. She can call upon broad ranging experience of managing sustainability and resource efficiency projects across a number of industry sectors, with a strong focus on the Northern Ireland economy and over a range of projects including Management Systems, Sustainability Assessment and Programme Management. A licensed BREEAM Assessor and accredited trainer, Sam has a clear working knowledge of the practical application of sustainability at operational levels from the shop floor to the Board Room.

Since 2011, CASE has been working with Northern Ireland business and academia to identify industry research needs in three priority areas; energy from biomass, turbines and demand side management. The Centre has access to over £5m funding for the research projects from Invest NI’s Competence Centre programme and through other International, European and National funding mechanisms.

As a member of the MATRIX Sustainable Energy Horizon Panel, Sam has recently been intrinsically involved in the development of a Road Map for sustainable energy in Northern Ireland that will guide government strategy in the near future. She is also a Non-Executive Director of the Workspace Group, one of the largest social enterprise organisations in Northern Ireland
