Ban the Box – Seeing Is Believing Visit **POSTPONED**
Business in the Community will soon be launching a ‘Ban the Box’ campaign. It aims to; help employers better understand the challenges people with convictions face when trying to turn their lives around through employment; encourage good practice in relation to recruitment practices; and support employers to engage practically with this often-overlooked group.

To kick things off and inspire organisations to engage in Ban the Box, we are organising a Seeing is Believing visit to Hydebank Wood College on 26 March 2020, delivered in partnership with Mugshots. Mugshots is a social enterprise operating within Hydebank Wood delivering employability qualifications and offering practical work experience on site.
The purpose of this Seeing is Believing visit is to tell you more about the Ban the Box campaign, and to introduce you to the work of Mugshots, a unique social enterprise working in Hydebank to develop the employability and work readiness skills of young people with convictions.
The visit will include a tour of the Prison, a welcome address from the Prison’s Governor and the chance to hear directly from some of the inmates about their experiences. We will have a debrief session at the end of the visit to seek your feedback and discuss your potential interest in supporting Ban the Box and the work of organisations like Mugshots.
Following the visit we will be setting up a Ban the Box Steering Group, to oversee and help drive the campaign. We aim to recruit ten employer champions to join this Group. The Group will meet quarterly and be encouraged to engage directly in Ban the Box activities as appropriate.
