It is estimated that 20% of women and 4% of men in the UK have suffered some form of sexual abuse since the age of 16*. This is an important issue that affects women, men and children regardless of their background.
Facilitated by Nexus, Northern Ireland’s leading charity in supporting people affected by sexual trauma, this session will give attendees a taster of a Break the Silence workshop, discussing sexual abuse and trauma including the different types and effects of sexual abuse, how to handle disclosures and the support services available.
The aim of the Break the Silence campaign is to equip organisations with important information on sexual abuse and trauma, and to help them show their commitment to tackling sexual abuse, both in the workplace and in society.
Nexus are experiencing an increasing demand for their specialist counselling services, with more than 900 referrals in the past 6 months, and many victims suffering in silence.This session will explore how organisations can be part of the solution by enabling conversations, supporting survivors and being champions of positive change.
