Facilitated by Marie Sweet, Clinical Lead Nurse Manager at training solutions company Health Matters, this Age-Inclusive Learning Network session will look at the effects of aging and how employers can support their workers to age well and to manage health issues effectively.
We will address the following:
- Benefits of work on health for mature worker
- Effects of aging and how employers can support their workers to age well and to manage health issues effectively, while remaining in employment
- Benefits of communication with employees when health issues become apparent in the workplace
- Mechanisms and options for support for employers managing an older employee with health issues

Marie Sweet, Clinical Lead Nurse Manager, Health Matters
Marie Sweet’s nursing journey began over 30 years ago, and she has since served in healthcare roles globally, including in Saudi Arabia, Australia, and London. With over 20 years of dedication to occupational health in the UK and Ireland, Marie’s career has encompassed a lot, including working with organisations to establish occupational health programmes and supporting businesses to optimise their occupational health usage. In 2008, she transitioned to a major UK-wide occupational health provider, gaining extensive experience working with national corporations. Her role involved training managers in attendance management, optimising occupational health services, and providing critical support for HR and managers in complex cases, as well as conducting various occupational health assessments.
In January 2021, Marie achieved another career milestone as the Clinical Lead Nurse Manager at Health Matters Occupational Health. In this role, she steers all clinical governance matters and shares her wealth of experience with local businesses and employees. Marie takes great pride in mentoring new nurses and technicians entering the field of occupational health.
Beyond her professional achievements, Marie Sweet is a passionate advocate for health, exercise, and fitness. She’s an avid runner, open water swimmer, and triathlete, firmly believing in the transformative power of physical activity and the great outdoors to enhance an individual’s mental and physical well-being and overall quality of life.
