Glenwell fundraiser provides garden and veg patch for local DePaul hostel

The Mater Dei DePaul hostel on the Antrim Road will undergo a garden makeover, complete with a vegetable patch and a communal area thanks to the generosity of staff and shoppers from EUROSPAR Glenwell.

The store’s team recently raised over £750 for the leading cross border charity, which supports men, women and children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The Mater Dei hostel provides accommodation and support to homeless families, helping them come to terms with their situation and help them get a home of their own in the community.

Stephanie Smith, Store Community Champion at EUROSPAR Glenwell commented; “We’re delighted our donation will provide such a fantastic space for the families at Mater Dei. Having that communal space where families can interact and kids can learn how to grow vegetables will make such a difference, and I hope provide a space that really feels like home.”

Kerry Mulvenna, Deputy Manager at Mater Dei added; “Everyone at Mater Dei is so grateful for the efforts the staff and shoppers have gone to, to help families in their local community. This is a fantastic amount of money and will help us give our side garden a mini makeover, create a vegetable patch for the kids to learn how to grow their own tomatoes etc. and we’ll also have some seating, planting and a colourful lick of paint to make it more family friendly.

“The team also donated a range of essentials from blankets to baby clothes which will help us provide even more for those who need it locally.”
