Business in the Community has awarded four companies the CORE Standard for Responsible Business – Northern Ireland’s only standard and benchmark for responsible business.

Danske Bank achieved top level Platinum, digital network provider Openreach and gas distribution network Phoenix Natural Gas achieved Gold Level, and brand owner and service provider SHS Group achieved Standard Level.

Currently 30 businesses in Northern Ireland have achieved the CORE Standard which enables an organisation to map its entire corporate responsibility activity and benchmark it against other organisations. CORE provides a verified and approved standard that evidences an organisation’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and responsible business activities.

Kieran Harding, Managing Director of Business in the Community said:

“Congratulations to Danske Bank, Phoenix Natural Gas, Openreach & SHS Group on achieving the CORE Standard for Responsible Business. These Northern Ireland organisations are truly committed to evolving their approach to corporate responsibility and maximising the positive impact they have on key social and environmental issues. Achieving CORE demonstrates real leadership and innovation within the wider marketplace on corporate responsibility issues.”

Organisations that go through the process of accreditation are assessed across ten areas of responsible business, based on the CORE Standard for Responsible Business Framework designed by Business in the Community.

CORE supports organisations to monitor, measure and improve their CR practice and performance, and businesses taking part in CORE go through a thorough assessment process, completing an online self-assessment with supporting evidence which is verified by an independent external assessor.

Mr Harding continued, “The CORE Standard for Responsible Business can only be achieved by organisations who have a strategic approach to CR issues and can show a commitment to implementing appropriate policies and actions, as well as setting out to measure and report on their achievements. It provides valuable benchmarking for companies taking part, as well as feedback to support continuous improvement.”
