Encirc – Resource Efficiency Champion

Encirc is a market leader in glass container design, manufacturing, bottling and logistics solutions for the UK and Irish food and beverages industries.

Background

Operating from purpose-built sites in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, NI and Elton, Cheshire, Encirc produces more than 2.5 billion containers and fills up to 250 million litres of beverages every year.

Encirc is also home to the Encirc Academy, a specialist training and consultancy offering bespoke technical and service assistance packages for the global container glass making industry.

What Encirc did

Encirc has been committed to offering cost-effective and efficient glass manufacture, bottling and logistics solutions for more than a decade to help food and beverage producers, merchants and importers reduce the environmental impact of their supply chains. To achieve this, Encirc has implemented a comprehensive sustainability strategy: Sustainable Futures to engage everyone in the business in reducing the overall environmental footprint.

Sustainable Futures provides a framework to support all activity. Focusing on three key areas – people, place and planet – Encirc has set itself 20 goals to achieve by 2020.

This further enforces Encirc’s aim to ensure resource efficiency and sustainability are key values within the company and crucial part of its long-term vision.

Recognising the importance of reducing the business’ environmental impact and the value of environmental capital, the board meets each month to conduct environmental reviews which feed into internal review meetings and provide structure for the Environmental committee. Members of the committee are ISO 14001 trained auditors who continually work to ensure all initiatives are effectively implemented.
