Established in 1962 Lagan Construction Group is a private, family-owned construction business which has grown from its quarry activity origins to be the major international civil engineering and building contractor that exists today.
Background
Building on 55 years of experience, Lagan Construction Group works in Ireland, UK and international communities and welcomed local firm H&J Martin in April 2015, making it one of the largest construction and civil engineering groups on the island of Ireland.
What Lagan Construction Group did
Lagan Construction Group recognises that the nature of its sector poses a variable amount of risk in terms of Health and Safety, and it has worked to help improve safety standards alongside the rest of the industry. Recognising that more needs to be done, Lagan Construction Group set up a Health and Wellbeing Steering Group in 2016 to re-energise its commitment, formalise an improvement plan, and raise awareness of health and wellbeing amongst its workforce.
The Health and Wellbeing Steering Group engaged with the board, managers, and representatives from across the organisation to develop a roadmap that ensured priority was given to the key health and wellbeing areas these stakeholders identified. The results of this led to the development of a tailored action plan of events.
Key activities implemented by Lagan included: Global Corporate Challenge, upgraded employee assistance programme, investment in healthcare plans for staff, partnership collaboration with Action Mental Health, family events and formal review of all formal policies and procedures.
