Time to Code

Time to Code, is a new pilot volunteering programme run by Business in the Community in partnership with Code Club.

What is it?

It aims to help children at Key Stage 2 Level (7-9 years old) gain IT and coding skills, build their confidence, and develop their team working and problem solving abilities. Initially, the programme is being piloted in the Greater Belfast area, supported by Belfast Harbour, and in the North West, supported by BT.

How does it work?

Volunteers dedicate one hour per week to help support pupils and teachers to code. Time to Code is offered during the school day in a group environment. Business in the Community and Code Club provide full training and Access NI clearance.

Inspiring the next generation

A key element of Time to Code is encouraging volunteers to provide a workplace visit for the children. This helps to inspire children about the world of work and gives them a greater understanding of the job their mentor does. It’s also great fun for all involved!
