Why Inclusive Recruitment of Refugees matters
Refugees in the UK are four times more likely to be unemployed than people born here and on average earn about half the amount per week that UK nationals do. Furthermore according to a 2024 survey more than 750 refugees and asylum seekers, 39% had to drop down to an entry level role compared to their previous role before arriving to the UK. Refugees, regardless of their country of origin come to the UK with a wide variety of professional experiences, educational backgrounds and skills, and can therefore add tremendous value to employers. Yet, barriers to employment such as lack of recognition of qualifications, language barriers, and limited professional networks means their value is not recognised.
The Opening Doors blueprint can be applied to ensuring inclusive recruitment of talented refugees. Along with our Opening Doors webinar on this theme, here you can access additional resources to support strategies.
