firmus energy working in the community

Local natural gas company, firmus energy has been bringing the benefits of this energy efficient fuel to over 85,000 homes and businesses since 2005.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) remains a cornerstone of firmus’ activities as it continues to extend its 1,100km pipeline network into new areas. Operating in over 30 towns, cities and villages, its dedicated CSR team manages its activities and selects key projects to work on throughout the year to improve the communities in which it operates. Its Charity of the Year 2018, voted by staff members, is the leading suicide prevention and crisis support charity, Lighthouse. In fact, it has raised more than £40,000 for local charities in the past three years. Last year, its fundraising donation for Sands NI went towards building a bereavement suite for the delivery unit in Antrim Area Hospital. firmus energy has provided more than 1,100 hours of volunteering activities in the last six months, and has helped customers save more than £40m in fuel costs to date across Northern Ireland.

firmus energy’s network construction involves laying pipes on a daily basis in many local communities. With regular community presentations, mailers and press releases, it informs local residents of the benefits of natural gas in their area. Since 2005, the company has displaced more than 650k tonnes of C02 – equivalent to taking 220,000 cars off our roads, making the air cleaner.

firmus energy’s CSR strategy allows all employees to become involved in activities, ranging from organising events to partaking in the ‘Time to Read’ literacy programme. It hopes to continue to make a difference, through enhanced CSR, to local communities in 2018 and beyond.
