Climate Change and Green Growth Policy Division, DAERA
For the past two years John has headed up a Branch within the Climate Change and Green Growth Policy Division in DAERA. His Branch has responsibility for co-ordinating the development of the Northern Ireland Climate Change Adaptation Programme and leading on the core sponsorship governance arrangements of the UK Climate Change Committee.
In his role John also leads on engagement with the UK Government and other Devolved Administrations on UK wide climate policy as well as leading on the NI Executive contribution to UN COP climate events. In fulfilling these roles his branch also has oversight for the Climate NI contract as well as providing funding support to the BITC Climate Action Campaign and to Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful (KNIB) to develop carbon literacy materials for schools and community groups.
Over the past 20 years John has held a variety of other roles in the Civil Service most recently, prior his current post, as Area Manager with oversight for over 60 of DAERAs Country Park and Nature Reserve properties across Northern Ireland overseeing the management of all aspects of the visitor infrastructure, public access, health and safety, capital infrastructure projects and nature conservation management across this estate.
