Angela McGowan, Board Member | Business in the Community Northern Ireland

Director, CBI Northern Ireland

Angela joined the CBI in October 2016 as Director for Northern Ireland having previously worked for eight years as the Chief Economist for Danske Bank. She has enjoyed a varied career as an economist in both the public and the private sector.

She has experience sitting on several boards including Vice Chair of Enterprise NI, Non-Executive Director of Young Enterprise and was a Commissioner on Belfast City Council’s Innovation and Inclusive Growth Commission. Angela has also represented the business community on the Department of Economy’s Interim Skills Council and on Queen’s University’s Employers Forum. She currently sits on the Northern Ireland Audit Office External Review Panel and sits on the board of Business in the Community Northern Ireland. Angela is also a Board Member of Intertrade UK. For many years she has been a regular commentator in the press on economic and business matters and she writes a monthly column for the Irish News.

In her role as CBI Director, she leads the Northern Ireland team on several policy issues that are important to the local business community. Her current conversations with Ministers and policymakers focus on the cost of doing business, the skills deficit, infrastructure, planning issues, delivery of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, decarbonisation, Post-Brexit Trade and ‘All-island’ collaboration around the island’s energy markets and rail/road connectivity.
