Fiacre O’Donnell, Sustainability Director, Encirc Ltd

What subjects did you enjoy at school that supported your career path?
Business Studies
Did you study at university or higher education?
Yes
What course did you study?
MBA
What does a typical day or week in your role look like?
I spend my time in activities that mean when someone lifts a glass bottle they can be sure that we are doing all we can to decarbonise our glass, to protect nature and to support and develop people both inside and outside our business. That could mean presentations, meeting politicians, working with the local authorities, meeting customers, designing communications plans, supporting and challenging teams in Encirc to be great in what they do.
What part of your job do you find most interesting or exciting?
The variety of the areas I work in and all the different people I get to interact with, knowing that all these are contributing to a better world.
What advice would you give to pupils who are interested in a career in sustainability?
Sustainability is difficult but the rewards are immense (and critical). Be ready to be challenged, be committed and courageous to your ‘why’, and use common sense.
