ABP marks 25 years at Balmoral Show with fund-raiser for farming charity

The agri-food business ABP is marking 25 years at the Balmoral Show with the chance to win its show stand, an agricultural building or an alternative cash prize of £20,000 in order to raise funds for the Rural Support Life Beyond programme that provides vital bereavement support to farm families.

Whether a family member has a terminal diagnosis, has been incapacitated due to sickness or injury or where there has been death as a result of illness, farm accident, or suicide, the Programme provides business and emotional support to the family members left behind.

ABP works alongside thousands of farmer suppliers in the supply of beef and lamb to leading retailers and restaurants and has been a platinum sponsor of the Balmoral Show for the past ten years. Tickets to enter this first-of-its-kind charity prize draw at Balmoral will be available at £10 each on ABP stand no. B5 or Rural Support stand no B33a or by visiting the ABP/ Linden Food/ Kettyle Irish Foods sites at Newry, Lurgan, Dungannon and Lisnaskea. Hospitality and refreshments will be available within the shed to invited ABP’s farmer-suppliers who can size up what it could mean to win this substantial asset or the cash alternative. In addition to the prize draw ABP is sponsoring a number of pedigree livestock classes in the beef and sheep rings as well as the NI Sheep Shearer’s Association Circuit.

Supporting bereaved farm families

Explaining the decision to replace its marquee with the donation of an agricultural building to charity, ABP Northern Ireland Managing Director, George Mullan, who is also Chairman of the Life Beyond steering group said “ABP is a strong supporter of Northern Ireland’s largest farming community event. We have a tradition of working with our charity partners to help them promote their causes; platform issues and hold successful stakeholder events with us at Balmoral. Our company has been partnering with the bereavement support service Embrace Farm in Ireland for a number of years. In 2021 we were delighted to lend our support to set up a similar programme in Northern Ireland under the auspices of Rural Support. The donation of our entire stand to Rural Support to help raise funds for Life Beyond is a progression of that commitment.”

Commenting on ABP’s contribution to Life Beyond, Chief Executive of Rural Support, Veronica Morris said, “We are delighted to be the chosen charity for this amazing shed raffle. ABP have been key supporters of the Life Beyond Programme since it began, and we can’t thank them enough for their continued commitment to supporting bereaved farming families in Northern Ireland. The money that is raised from this raffle will help these families to manage their circumstances and their feelings at these times of immense pressure and distress.”

Life Beyond is one of several priority community investments by ABP in Northern Ireland. In 2021 ABP entered into a brand partnership with HEMS Air Ambulance NI which attends on average three farming-related callouts per week. ABP has also been a member of the Farm Safety Partnership.
