Event Information
Date: 26 April 2013
Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Location: Libraries Province-wide
Price: Free

Linking in with Spring On-Line Week this is a day for volunteers to help our senior citizens access the world of the internet.  This will take place in the majority of libraries across Northern Ireland.

Take time out to share your skills of the internet with someone who has yet to experience this wonderful technology.  Set up an email account, introduce them to Google – their experience will be down to you!  Enjoy the feel-good factor of helping out another individual and the pleasure this brings!

How can I get involved?

You could make a difference and help senior citizens across Northern Ireland with their IT skills. A popular event, which always proves to be rewarding and enjoyable for all concerned, volunteer evaluations from 2011 showed that 100% of volunteers found participating in Silver Surfers’ Day an enjoyable experience.

This will take place in the majority of libraries across Northern Ireland, so you can volunteer and make a difference in your local community. Now in its 9th year, Business in the Community, in partnership with the NI Direct Digital Inclusion Unit of the Department of Finance and Personnel and Libraries NI, will be holding free IT taster sessions for the over 50s in a number of selected libraries across Northern Ireland on Silver Surfers’ Day.

However, the success of Silver Surfers’ Day would not have been possible without our dedicated business volunteers. We require business volunteers to show people over 50 years of age the basics of

  • how to use a computer
  • how to register for their free e-mail account
  • how to e-mail family abroad, book cheap flights, save time on shopping, find a computer course, bank safely and more

In addition, Business in the Community will provide free online training for all volunteers.

For further information, or if you experience any technical difficulties accessing the training, please contact Roisin Smith on (028) 9046 0606 or email roisin.smith@bitcni.org.uk
