Why Inclusive Recruitment of people with previous convictions matter
Most people with a criminal record haven’t been to prison and of those who have, the vast majority (67%) committed a nonviolent crime. Whether someone has paid fines or served time in prison, employment can help break the cycle of reoffending.
81% of employers agree that employing ex-offenders has helped their business (YouGov, May 2019). Yet, many skilled and capable candidates still face unnecessary barriers when re-entering the workforce, despite having the experience, qualifications, and motivation to contribute.
The Opening Doors blueprint can be applied to aid fair and inclusive recruitment opportunities for those with a previous conviction. Along with our Opening Doors webinar on this theme, here you can access additional resources, to support strategies that tap into the economic potential of this diverse talent pool.
