Businesses Could Save Lives
The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) is asking for businesses to consider helping to save lives by allowing staff to donate blood. There are five hundred patients who need to receive a blood transfusion each and every week in Northern Ireland. It could be a person with cancer, a mother during childbirth; somebody involved in an accident, a child with leukaemia or indeed someone undergoing routine surgery.
This is a great opportunity for businesses to encourage their workforce to do something together for the good of the community and, all it will cost is 45 minutes of their time. That’s the average time it takes to give blood which includes the registration, donation, rest and refreshment.
There are a number of ways businesses can take part in this life-saving work: host an actual blood donation session on their premises, have the NIBTS BloodMobile set up in the car park, or visit one of the many public blood donation sessions held throughout Northern Ireland.
In the Greater Belfast area, blood donation sessions are held each week day in our HQ based on the Belfast City Hospital site. Also, the NIBTS has just reopened its totally re-furbished facility on the ground floor at 16 College Street, Belfast. Although currently this facility is open the first Thursday of every month, it can be made available for sole use of a business on other days.
